July Book Round Up

Although July was event slower than June, that’s just life sometimes. I made it through two books and one I really enjoyed and the other was just mostly ok.

  1. Book 2 of Alexander McCall Smith’s 44 Scotland Street series is called Espresso Tales and it was just as delightful as the first. Following wee 7-year old Bertie Pollock more specifically was a highlight, though I do rather enjoy the storyline focusing on Pat.
  2. I first heard of Waist Deep by Linda Maja Ernst when I saw a review in the NYT with the tagline, “Linea Maja Ernst is polyamorous, but her wife isn’t. Although they love each other, they still haven’t quite “figured it out,” much like some of the characters in her debut novel.” and it caught my attention. Although I think this is a good description of the characters in her debut novel, it was more about the inner turmoil of the characters and their views on relationships, than actual poly relationships outright. I did enjoy this, because representation matters and seeing these kinds of stories is fantastic, but it wasn’t quite what I expected. I hope to discuss it in a book club chat if anyone else on the discord reads it.

There you have it. Finished 2…now for August, where I started several books, and finished none. I’ll talk about that tomorrow, though.

March Book Round Up

I am going to try something new for my book round ups. Instead of uploading all the book images and inserting them as a tiled gallery here, I will use the monthly graphic available from my StoryGraph account, so it’s more consolidated. StoryGraph is an alternative to Goodreads and right now, I am using both. You can feel free to follow me over on StoryGraph if you’d like! My username is shown in the graphics. Goodreads is more linked to my real name so I won’t be sharing that. But they’re identical in what I am tracking right now. March was actually a pretty solid month for reads. I read 11 books!
