I actually haven’t been to Loch Lomond yet, on this trip, but it’s on the list! Hello, hello! I am SLACKING. I owe y’all June, July, and August book round ups (confession: I don’t think I finished a single one in August actually?!) and at the minimum, an UPDATE on where I am! I also have a nearly finished post on community, friendship, endings, etc. ready to go. I’ve also been toying with the idea of starting a podcast? Is that crazy? Maybe. We’ll see. Anyway, I moved to Scotland – that’s the big news I needed to follow up on. Of course, it’s a temporary move, but we are finally settled now, 8 weeks in, and I can’t imagine leaving in January. Checking In
I have my April book round up post in the works – I didn’t forget. It’s just that May has been very busy. Ever heard of the month of May being called “Maycember” for folks with kids? It’s because it’s so near the end of school that it often feels like the business of December/the holiday season. I have, annoyingly, been having nightmares about Firefly, which is fun. Then heartbreaking dreams about Elephant. My sleep is absolutely shot between those and the other insecurities and frustrations invading my headspace. This has been a complicated year, so far. I’ve spent a lot of it sad and hurt and now spend a lot of it frustrated and angry with myself, back to square one with being unable to trust myself, my wants, my needs, anything. I haven’t attended parties, I’m barely participating in online spaces. I don’t see a point. Making myself vulnerable in this context is too risky.

Why not start February by being on time with a book round up for the year? January is typically my biggest month for reading I think, but this year was slightly slower. I had the privilege of hosting my dear scene friend Alex while she dealt with some personal things locally, so I spent more time being present with people than hiding in books. I still did some “damage” though and it was an 7 book month!
