Ok, this is a first. I didn’t finish a single book in August. I was feeling stressed about this, but actually I am ok with it. I had a lot going on! I was getting settled in a new country, figuring out asynchronous remote work, traveling to see friends and new places, and generally just very busy. My brain didn’t have the space to listen to or read books. I did listen to many of the books I started and failed to finish in July, but just didn’t finish anything.

July Book Round Up
Although July was event slower than June, that’s just life sometimes. I made it through two books and one I really enjoyed and the other was just mostly ok.

- Book 2 of Alexander McCall Smith’s 44 Scotland Street series is called Espresso Tales and it was just as delightful as the first. Following wee 7-year old Bertie Pollock more specifically was a highlight, though I do rather enjoy the storyline focusing on Pat.
- I first heard of Waist Deep by Linda Maja Ernst when I saw a review in the NYT with the tagline, “Linea Maja Ernst is polyamorous, but her wife isn’t. Although they love each other, they still haven’t quite “figured it out,” much like some of the characters in her debut novel.” and it caught my attention. Although I think this is a good description of the characters in her debut novel, it was more about the inner turmoil of the characters and their views on relationships, than actual poly relationships outright. I did enjoy this, because representation matters and seeing these kinds of stories is fantastic, but it wasn’t quite what I expected. I hope to discuss it in a book club chat if anyone else on the discord reads it.
There you have it. Finished 2…now for August, where I started several books, and finished none. I’ll talk about that tomorrow, though.

June Book Round Up
June was a slow month leading up to our move. I was distracted and busy and finished a grand total of…four books. Reader, that’s better than I did in August, ha! However, they were all really good books!
